KyPass App Reviews

Extremely disappointed….

I purchased this with the intention of using dropbox to sync with my kypass kdb database from my other iOS devices. This feature is available for iPhone / iPad, but not the mac KyPass Companion version.

Thank you!!!

I’ve been using KeePass on Windows for many years. When I switched to a Mac a couple of years ago, I continued to run Windows on VMWare for a few apps that I just couldn’t part with…KeePass being one. This turned out to be the easiest transition ever! Just install the app and open the KeePass file. It may not function exactly like KeePass but that’s just fine with me. It does exactly what I need it to do without the headaches of starting over with a new/different app. And as an added bonus, I didn’t need to install Mono or anything else! Great job! Thank you!!

Terrible, Buggy

I downloaded and opened KyPass and tried to edit an existing KeePass file. I couldnt do anything - I couldnt edit existing entries, add a new entry, nothing. I tried making a new KeePass file, and it was populated with a bunch of junk folders cluttering up the file. I tried deleting the folders. The delete keyboard shortcut didnt work. I deleted them one at a time, until the app froze up, my CPU sat at 99%, and three minutes later it crashed. Completely worthless program.

1.7 Discards data from other KeePass clients

Version 1.7 (3187) will discard extended details added by other KeePass clients. The mobile app I use adds some custom fields it uses and when I save via this app all those custom fields get lost. Not cool.

Great product - Feature Request

I have been using Kypass Companion for a while on OS X and find it a fantastic product that works flawlessly. Well done you guys! But there is one feature that is missing: Whenever I add a new key to the database I prefer to change the name of the file (by adding a consecutive number to the end) so that there is no confusion about which among my backups has the latest data. If Kypass had a “Save as..” command to let me do this, it would be perfect.

Just purchased for macbook / yosemite and will not open kdbx file

… that opens fine on my windows machine using keeps. Nothing happens, kypass just sits there at the login screen. See nothing on support forum or options to try and debug.

Terribly disappointing

KyPass Companion was my first attempt to replicate on my home computer the functionality I get from KeePass on my work computers. Sadly, it was a terribly disappointing attempt and I’ve since started looking for alternatives. The problems with the OS-X version of this application are numerous. I abandoned “sharing” the same security DB between this app and the original KeePass in Windows almost immediately. I found that the shared file would become corrupted and could not be opened in either app any more. The corruption issue isn’t ubiquitous when I access a file using this app only but it is far too commonplace. I’ve had to “recreate” my security DB a couple of times because the app crashes and the file becomes corrupted. It’s only by virtue of Time Machine that I’m only losing small blocks of data, relatively speaking, when it invariably crashes. There are other minor quibbles I have with this app. The interface is clunky and not intutive. It’s missing basic sorting and “file management” functions. I can’t sort the groups in my DB by alphabetical order and that should be a default feature. And there seems to be no way to “empty the recycle bin” inside the app. I can delete group after group and entry after entry until my heart’s content but they’ll always remain in the recycle bin. I have asked the developer for a refund of my purchase and I strongly advise others to stay away. At least until there are some significant improvements.

Nothing

I cant edit old example entries, I cant import with Import Tasker function, I cant get it to open an example file after Ive given it a password, the password was “password” so Im sure I was typing it in correctly. This was a total waste of time, money and effort.
