Terribly disappointing
KyPass Companion was my first attempt to replicate on my home computer the functionality I get from KeePass on my work computers. Sadly, it was a terribly disappointing attempt and I’ve since started looking for alternatives.
The problems with the OS-X version of this application are numerous. I abandoned “sharing” the same security DB between this app and the original KeePass in Windows almost immediately. I found that the shared file would become corrupted and could not be opened in either app any more.
The corruption issue isn’t ubiquitous when I access a file using this app only but it is far too commonplace. I’ve had to “recreate” my security DB a couple of times because the app crashes and the file becomes corrupted. It’s only by virtue of Time Machine that I’m only losing small blocks of data, relatively speaking, when it invariably crashes.
There are other minor quibbles I have with this app. The interface is clunky and not intutive. It’s missing basic sorting and “file management” functions. I can’t sort the groups in my DB by alphabetical order and that should be a default feature. And there seems to be no way to “empty the recycle bin” inside the app. I can delete group after group and entry after entry until my heart’s content but they’ll always remain in the recycle bin.
I have asked the developer for a refund of my purchase and I strongly advise others to stay away. At least until there are some significant improvements.
